| What size equipment should I use? My dad Jim, known to some as 'one eye' feels that bigger is better most of the time. If there are no conditions preventing one from having the ability to use the larger equipment, from his experience, Jim says "use the bigger sluices and drywashers, etc. I feel it is better to have the equipment waiting on you rather than you waiting on the equipment. The last thing one should want is to stand around with nothing to do as your hard work is being processed. The more material you can process at one time obviously means the more chances of finding gold, or more gold, which is ultimately our goal." Now on the other hand, if you prefer the hikes and more difficult prospecting locations, at that point it would most likely be in your best interest to use the smaller equipment. This being one exception to Jim's philosophy of bigger being better "most of the time". Sluicing Tips, How to use a sluice box Visit our sluicing page for a detailed description, photos and a video |
